How to Search the Harrison County Registry
The main tool for searching sex offender records in Harrison County is iCrimeWatch, the public-facing interface for Indiana's OffenderWatch database. You can search by name, city, zip code, or address. The results show the offender's photo, listed address, offense history, and registration status. All 92 Indiana counties feed into this same system, so you can also search statewide if needed.
You can also search through the Indiana Department of Correction Sex and Violent Offender Registry. That site pulls from the same OffenderWatch system. Some people find the IDOC portal easier to navigate. Either way, the data is the same.
The National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) lets you search across all 50 states at once. This is useful if you want to check whether someone has a record in another state before they moved to Harrison County. It is free and does not require you to create an account.
Note: Registry data is updated as offenders register or update their information with the Harrison County Sheriff, so check back if you need the most current address on file.

Indiana's Sex Offender Registration Law
Indiana's main sex offender registration law is known as Zachary's Law, codified at IC 11-8-8. The law took effect on January 1, 2003. It was named for Zachary Snider, a boy from Cloverdale who was killed by a registered sex offender. The statute set up the current statewide registry system and defined who must register, for how long, and what happens when they fail to comply.
Under IC 11-8-8-4.5, the types of offenses that trigger registration include sexual misconduct with a minor, child solicitation, rape, criminal deviate conduct, and several other crimes. The statute also covers certain offenses from other states and federal convictions. If an out-of-state sex offender moves to Harrison County, they must register here even if their original offense was not committed in Indiana.
The 72-hour registration deadline is set by IC 11-8-8-7. That clock starts the moment an offender is released from custody, changes their address, or arrives in Indiana from another state. Offenders must also register their work address and school address if they are employed or enrolled. Homeless offenders must check in every seven days.
Registration Requirements and Verification
Most sex offenders in Indiana must verify their registration once a year. Sexually violent predators (SVPs) have a stricter schedule and must appear in person every 90 days. Verification means confirming that the current address, employment, and other registration details are still accurate. The Harrison County Sheriff's Office manages this process locally.
Registration periods vary by offense type. Most offenders must remain on the registry for 10 years from their release date. Those classified as sexually violent predators, or those convicted of offenses against children under 12, face lifetime registration. The length of time is set by state law and cannot be reduced by local officials.
Offenders who fail to register or who give false information face serious penalties. Under IC 11-8-8-17, a first-time failure to register is a Level 6 felony, which can result in up to two and a half years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A second violation is a Level 5 felony with harsher penalties. Courts treat these violations seriously.
Residency and Movement Restrictions
Indiana law limits where registered sex offenders can live. Under IC 35-42-4-11, offenders may not reside within 1,000 feet of a school, public park, or youth program center. They must also stay at least one mile from the home of their victim. These distances are measured in a straight line, not by road.
In Harrison County, these restrictions apply across all areas, including rural townships and small towns outside Corydon. Offenders who move must report to the sheriff within 72 hours and cannot remain at a new address if it violates the residency rules. The sheriff's office can help clarify whether a specific address is compliant.
Work and school addresses are also part of the registration file. If an offender changes jobs or enrolls in a new school, that change must be reported within the 72-hour window. Missing this deadline, even by a short time, counts as a registration violation under state law.
Note: The Indiana Sheriffs' Association offers additional guidance on registration rules and restrictions that apply across all Indiana counties including Harrison.
Email Alerts and Community Notification
Indiana residents can sign up for free email alerts when a sex offender registers or updates their information in a specific area. This service runs through the same OffenderWatch system used by Harrison County. You can set alerts by zip code, city, or a radius around a specific address. Alerts go out whenever an offender moves into or out of your chosen area.
To sign up, visit iCrimeWatch and look for the notification option. There is no cost and no account required for basic searches. The alert system is one of the more useful tools for families who want to stay current on changes near their home or their children's school.
The Indiana Sheriffs' Association can help you locate the Harrison County Sheriff's contact details if you want to speak with someone directly about a notification concern. The sheriff's office handles local follow-up when residents report concerns about registered offenders in their area.
