How to Search the Jasper County Registry
The public search portal for Jasper County is iCrimeWatch, Indiana's OffenderWatch interface. Search by name, zip code, city, or a specific address. Results include the offender's photo, current registered address, offense history, and registration status. Searches are free. You do not need an account.
You can also use the Indiana Department of Correction registry, which connects to the same OffenderWatch data. The IDOC site is a good option if you want to review full conviction history or check whether someone has been designated as a sexually violent predator. Both sites are updated as local sheriff offices submit new registrations and changes.
If you want to search across state lines, the National Sex Offender Public Website covers all 50 states. This is useful for checking whether someone who recently moved to Jasper County has a prior sex offense record from another state. The national search is free and requires no login.
Note: Jasper County uses the same OffenderWatch system as all other Indiana counties, so the search results you see on iCrimeWatch reflect what the local sheriff's office has on file.

Indiana Registration Law in Jasper County
Indiana's sex offender registration statute is IC 11-8-8, known as Zachary's Law. It was named for Zachary Snider of Cloverdale, who was killed by a registered sex offender. The law took effect January 1, 2003, and created the registration system that Jasper County and all other Indiana counties use today.
Under IC 11-8-8-4.5, the offenses that require registration include rape, sexual misconduct with a minor, child solicitation, and others. Convictions from other states and federal convictions also trigger Indiana registration. When someone convicted of a sex offense moves to Jasper County from another state, they must register here even if their original conviction predates Indiana's law.
The 72-hour deadline in IC 11-8-8-7 applies to all registrants. The clock starts at release from custody, a change of address, or arrival in Indiana from another state. Missing the deadline, even briefly, is a criminal violation. This same window applies to changes in work address or school enrollment.
Verification Schedules and Registration Periods
Most registered sex offenders must appear at the Jasper County Sheriff's Office once a year to verify their registration details. This annual check-in confirms that the current address, employer, and other information on file is still accurate. Sexually violent predators face a shorter cycle and must verify every 90 days in person.
The standard registration period in Indiana is 10 years from the date of release or end of any supervision. Offenders classified as sexually violent predators, and those whose crimes involved children under 12, must register for life. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office does not have the authority to shorten these periods. They are set by state law and apply uniformly across all Indiana counties.
Failing to verify on schedule is treated the same as failing to register in the first place. Under IC 11-8-8-17, a first offense is a Level 6 felony with penalties up to two and a half years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A second offense becomes a Level 5 felony. Courts in Jasper County prosecute these violations.
Residency Rules and Community Safety
Indiana law limits where sex offenders can live. Under IC 35-42-4-11, no registrant may live within 1,000 feet of a school, park, or youth program center. They must also maintain at least one mile of distance from their victim's home address. These rules apply throughout Jasper County, in both the Rensselaer area and the communities near DeMotte.
Homeless offenders in Jasper County must check in at the sheriff's office every seven days. This weekly registration replaces the standard annual check-in and continues until the offender has a fixed address to report. Indiana does not exempt homeless offenders from the registration process.
The Indiana Sheriffs' Association publishes resources on sex offender registration requirements for all 92 counties. Their guidance is written in plain language and explains both what offenders must do and what residents can expect from the registry system. Use the sheriff locator to confirm current contact details for the Jasper County Sheriff before visiting either office location.
