The White County Sheriff's Department does not operate a separate local search portal. All public registry data for White County is accessible through the iCrimeWatch statewide system. Use the Monticello zip code (47960) for an address-based search centered on the county seat. You can also use other zip codes within White County to search specific areas.

For searches that cross state lines, the National Sex Offender Public Website covers all 50 state registries at once. White County is in north-central Indiana, and offenders who were convicted in Illinois and move to this part of the state must register under Indiana law.

What's in Each Registry Record

Each record in the White County sex offender registry includes the person's full legal name and any aliases. A current photograph taken at the most recent registration or verification visit is part of every public record. The home address and, when available, the employer name and work address appear. The record shows the specific offense that triggered registration, the date of conviction, and where the conviction took place.

Physical description fields include height, weight, hair color, eye color, and race. Vehicle information such as make, model, and plate number may also be shown. Online identifiers including email addresses and social media usernames are collected but may not all be visible in the public search portal. For additional detail on a specific registrant, call the White County Sheriff's Department at 574-583-2251.

Records update each time the offender checks in for required verification or reports a change. If a record appears outdated, contact the Sheriff's Department or the Indiana Department of Correction's registry division to report the discrepancy.

Indiana Registration Law: IC 11-8-8

Indiana's sex offender registry system is built on IC 11-8-8, called Zachary's Law. The law went into effect January 1, 2003. It was named for Zachary Snider of Cloverdale, Indiana, a child killed by someone with a prior sex offense conviction. Zachary's Law requires every Indiana county sheriff to operate a public registry and submit data to the statewide system. Public access is free.

IC 11-8-8-4.5 lists the qualifying offenses. These include rape, child molesting, criminal deviate conduct, sexual misconduct with a minor, child exploitation, incest, possession of child pornography, and voyeurism against minors. Out-of-state convictions that match these categories also require registration in Indiana. When an offender moves to White County from Illinois, they must register at the White County Sheriff's Office within 72 hours of arriving.

IC 11-8-8-7 requires registration within 72 hours of release from prison, end of probation or parole, or arrival in a new county. Failure to register is a Level 6 felony. A second offense is charged as a Level 5 felony with a sentencing range of one to six years. Failure-to-register cases are prosecuted by the White County Prosecutor.

Registration Periods and Verification Schedule

Most registrants in White County must stay on the registry for 10 years. The 10-year period begins on the date the person is released from custody or when supervised release ends. After 10 years of full compliance with no new offenses, the person may petition an Indiana court to be removed from the registry. The court reviews the full criminal history and current risk level before making a decision.

Sexually violent predators and persons convicted of offenses against victims under age 12 must register for life. They cannot petition for removal. Life registrants check in at the White County Sheriff's Office every 90 days. All other registrants appear once per year. Each visit requires an in-person appearance and a new photograph taken by sheriff's staff.

Any change to address, employer, vehicle, or online accounts must be reported within 72 hours of the change. Moving out of White County requires notifying this sheriff and registering in the new county within 72 hours of arriving there. Failure to meet any reporting deadline is a criminal offense under Indiana law.

Residency Restrictions in White County

Indiana bars certain registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school, public park, youth program center, or licensed child care facility. This restriction applies across all of White County to offenders convicted of crimes against minors. Breaking this rule is a Level 6 felony. Offenders must also keep at least one mile between themselves and their victim's home address.

Probation or parole orders may add further restrictions beyond what Indiana state law requires. These vary from case to case. Before moving to any new address in White County, an offender should call the Sheriff's Department at 574-583-2251 to confirm the address is compliant with all restrictions. The 1,000-foot rule applies to owned homes, rentals, and temporary stays alike. Do not assume compliance without checking first.
