How to Search the Warrick County Sex Offender Registry

Warrick County uses OffenderWatch for its local registry. You can search directly at warricksheriff.com/sor/sor.php. This is a dedicated portal managed by the Warrick County Sheriff's Office. The search lets you look up offenders by name or by address. An address-based search shows all registered offenders within a set radius of any location in the county.

The statewide search is also available at no cost through iCrimeWatch Indiana. That site covers all 92 Indiana county sheriffs. If you want results from across the state, use iCrimeWatch. If you only want Warrick County data, the sheriff's own OffenderWatch portal is the most direct option. Both tools are free and do not require any login or account creation.

The Warrick County Sheriff's Office states: "The Sheriff's Office is pleased to provide OffenderWatch for the citizens of Warrick County. OffenderWatch is the nation's leading registered sex offender management and community notification tool." The office also notes that it uses OffenderWatch "to manage and monitor the whereabouts, conduct and compliance status of the registered offenders in Warrick County."

You can also use the National Sex Offender Public Website to run searches across all 50 states at once. This is useful when checking on someone who may have recently moved to Warrick County from Kentucky or Illinois.

Free email alerts are available through the iCrimeWatch system. Set up an alert for any address and you will be notified when a registered sex offender moves in nearby. This is one of the most useful features of the statewide system for Warrick County residents.

What Registration Information Is Public

When you search the Warrick County sex offender registry, each record shows the offender's full legal name and any aliases. You also see a current photograph, the home address, and employer name and address if known. The record includes the offense or offenses that required registration, the conviction date, and the county and state of conviction.

Vehicle information such as make, model, and plate number may also appear. Online identifiers such as email addresses and social media usernames are collected at registration but may not all be displayed in the public-facing search portal. Physical description details including height, weight, hair color, and eye color are also part of each registry entry.

The data in the OffenderWatch portal comes directly from what Warrick County law enforcement collects at each in-person registration visit. Records are updated each time an offender checks in for annual verification or after any reported change. If an entry looks outdated, contact the Sheriff's Office at (812) 897-6180 to report it.

Indiana Law and Zachary's Law

Indiana's sex offender registry is built on Zachary's Law, codified at IC 11-8-8. The law took effect January 1, 2003. It was named for Zachary Snider, a child from Cloverdale, Indiana, who was killed by a person who had a prior sex offense conviction. The law requires all 92 county sheriffs in Indiana to maintain a public registry and share data with the statewide system. Access to that data is free for all Indiana residents.

IC 11-8-8-7 sets the 72-hour registration deadline. This applies after release from incarceration, after the end of parole or probation, and after any change of address, employer, or other required information. IC 11-8-8-4.5 defines the offenses that require registration. These include rape, child molesting, criminal deviate conduct, sexual misconduct with a minor, child exploitation, and possession of child pornography. Out-of-state convictions that match these offenses also require registration in Indiana.

Failing to register or missing a required verification appointment is a Level 6 felony under Indiana law. A second offense is charged as a Level 5 felony. Level 5 felonies carry a sentencing range of one to six years in state prison. Warrick County prosecutors handle these cases, and the Sheriff's Office refers non-compliant offenders for criminal charges.

Registration Periods and Verification Requirements

Most people on the Warrick County sex offender registry must stay registered for 10 years. The 10-year clock starts when the offender is released from custody, or when supervised release ends, whichever comes later. After completing 10 years without any new violations, the person may petition a court to be removed from the registry. The court reviews the full case record and current risk level before ruling.

Sexually violent predators (SVPs) and people convicted of offenses against victims under age 12 must register for life. There is no petition option for those individuals. Life registrants check in at the Warrick County Sheriff's Office every 90 days to verify their address and other required information. All other registrants verify once per year. Each visit requires an in-person appearance and a new photo.

Any address change, new employer, new vehicle, or change in online accounts must be reported within 72 hours. Offenders moving out of Warrick County must notify the Warrick County Sheriff before leaving and must register with the new county's sheriff within 72 hours of arrival.

Residency Restrictions in Warrick County

Indiana law prohibits certain sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school, public park, youth program center, or licensed child care facility. This restriction applies to offenders who were convicted of crimes against minors. It covers Boonville and every other community in Warrick County. A violation is a Level 6 felony.

Offenders must also stay at least one mile from the home address of their victim. Some offenders have additional restrictions imposed by their probation or parole conditions. Those conditions may be stricter than what state law requires on its own. Before moving to any new address in Warrick County, an offender should confirm with the sheriff's office that the address is compliant. Call (812) 897-6180 with questions about a specific address.

These restrictions apply whether the offender owns the property, rents it, or stays there temporarily. A short stay at a location that violates the restriction is still a criminal offense. County law enforcement actively monitors compliance through regular checks and community tips.
