How to Search LaGrange County Sex Offenders
Go to iCrimeWatch Indiana to search the registry for free. You can search by name, zip code, city name, or by drawing a radius on the map. No account is needed and no fee is charged.
Results show every active registrant in the area you search. Each record includes the person's current photo, full legal name, aliases, date of birth, registered addresses, offense type and date, and tier classification. If the address listed shows "transient," the person has no fixed home but is still monitored.
LaGrange County has a notable Amish community, which can make address verification more complex in some rural areas. The sheriff's office works with registrants in those areas to ensure addresses are on file. The same search tools apply regardless of where in the county someone lives.
For searches across state lines, use NSOPW.gov. The Indiana Department of Correction maintains the statewide backend that supplies data to iCrimeWatch.
Indiana's Sex Offender Registration Law
Indiana Code 11-8-8, known as Zachary's Law, has required sex offender registration since January 1, 2003. The law applies to anyone convicted of a qualifying sex offense or violent offense against a child, whether the conviction happened in Indiana or another state.
Registrants must notify the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office within 72 hours any time their address, employer, school, or vehicle changes. The 72-hour window does not adjust for weekends or holidays. Missing it is a Level 6 felony.
Most registrants verify once a year. Sexually violent predators must appear at the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office every 90 days. The sheriff's staff updates the public record after each verification.
Registration Tiers and Duration
Indiana assigns registrants to one of three tiers based on the offense. Tier 1 is for lower-risk offenses. Tier 3 is for the most serious crimes. Tier placement affects how long someone stays on the registry and in some cases affects verification frequency.
Some registrants must remain on the list for life. Courts decide this at sentencing based on the offense and whether the person qualifies as a sexually violent predator. SVP status is listed in the public registry record.
Out-of-state convictions get mapped to the closest Indiana equivalent when the person registers in LaGrange County. If the out-of-state conviction would have required registration in Indiana, registration is required here too.
What the Public Record Shows
Each LaGrange County listing in iCrimeWatch includes the registrant's current photo, legal name, any aliases, date of birth, home address, employer and school addresses if applicable, the offense type, the conviction date, and tier or SVP status.
Transient registrants are labeled clearly. They have no fixed address but still check in with the sheriff on a set schedule. Their records stay active and searchable in the database.
The record does not include private information like Social Security numbers or medical details. The law specifically limits what goes into the public registry. What is there is enough to identify the person and know where to find them.
Residency Restrictions
Indiana prohibits registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school, public park, or youth-serving facility. This rule applies to all of LaGrange County. It covers the city of LaGrange and all rural areas throughout the county.
If you are a registrant unsure about an address, contact the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office before you move. A compliance violation is a criminal charge, not just a paperwork issue. It is far better to ask first.
Local towns in LaGrange County may also add their own restrictions on top of the state law. The sheriff's office can tell you whether local ordinances apply to a specific location.
